Notes: Following include notes where Shirley reports Mom's memories.
Another early childhood friend was Peter Baumgarten, the only son of my mother’s only brother. He was three years younger than mom and they left Berlin for Paris in 1928. Peter’s father, Julien, was a strange man, who at one time called himself an “inventor”. He was married to a very beautiful woman who was older than she professed. In 1940 when the Germans started occuping Paris, Peter and his mother went to Marseilles and eventually went from there to New York[1] where she had a brother, who was much younger. Julek (Julien) stayed in Paris where he was hidden during the war by friends. He died in early 1951 in Paris, and Magda was with him. His wife, Lydia, remarried later on, and she died of Altzheimers. Peter was in the war – he served in the Pacific and involved in some pretty nasty experiences in the Pacific. Mom did not see Peter again until 1949 when she came to the States for the first time. Then in early 1951 he introduced his bride to them in New York.[2] A well known psychoanalyst, Rudy Lowenstein, was a friend of Magda. Mom contacted him to find Peter’s address in the late sixties. They corresponded for several years and met his daughter. Last time she sent a letter to his address, it came back as recipient unknown.

Peter Baumgarten also visited there [Bern] for extended periods of time; one summer (1934?) together with me and we played at pretending we were brother and sister.[3]
Notes:
See ship manifests below. [Hard to decipher what overwritten information is about, but does have their Paris address.
Married Lois Shields. April 23, 1951--see Ancestry.com.
"Documented" stays of Peter with Aunt Franka include September 1931 (see card from Magda to Franka--"I see from your card that Piotruś is still with you. Write if he goes to school there.") and 1932 (see letter from Tramer to Franka).
Notes:
Was known as Pierre Baumgarten in France.
Like Mom, born in Berlin, but only had Polish citizenship
The middle name Ralph, which I never knew--more homage back to the Baumgarten Rafael's (as opposed to Mom's Dad)
